Julia Baum

MSED, BFA, LMHC (SHE/HER)

My path to therapy developed organically from an unexpected place. Before I got here, my career was in the arts. I mainly focused on portraiture and planned on having a long career as a photographer. Eventually, though, I realized that my camera was getting in the way of my favorite part of the job—connecting with my subjects. What I loved most was getting to know each person and guiding them through a genuine expression of themselves.

After almost ten years in the art world, I concluded that I didn't need a camera or a gallery to fulfill my true passion, so I began my education and training in mental health counseling. Since then, I've worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, community mental health, and day treatment programs for seriously mentally ill adults.

You'll find that my artistic nature shines through in my role as a therapist. I support authenticity and encourage unconditional self-acceptance. If you're a creative being, we'll likely make a strong team.

My post-grad training has been in Rational-Emotive & Cognitive Behavior Therapy (RE-CBT), Philosophical, and Humanistic approaches. I regularly participate in professional development and consider myself a life-long learner.

I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and an accredited member of the New York Mental Health Counselors Association. I hold the distinguished position as Associate Fellow and Training Faculty Level II of The Albert Ellis Institute, having completed the highest level of external training in REBT and an Affiliate Member of the American Philosophical Practitioners Association. I hold a Master of Science in Education degree in Mental Health Counseling from Fordham University and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the School of Visual Arts.
